Don’t Forget to Clean These Spaces in Your Bathroom

When cleaning your bathroom, you likely have a routine and don’t forget to clean common areas like sinks, floors and the tub or shower. However, there might be some less obvious spots in your bathroom that get overlooked by your scrubbing.

In today’s blog we want to offer you a helpful checklist to help ensure every nook and cranny is spotless in your bathroom.

Keep these spaces clean

Showerheads: Cleaning your showerhead is a simple task that's worth the effort. It will look better, and your showers will be more enjoyable! Clean it by either taking the showerhead off and soaking it in a bucket with white vinegar for a few hours. Alternatively, you can fill a plastic bag with plain white vinegar and attach it to the showerhead with an elastic band.

Plumbing Tip: If your showerhead is dripping, it might be time for a replacement. If the leak is coming from inside the wall, or you are unable to remove the showerhead, it might be time to call a professional.

Shower curtains and liners: You are likely cleaning your shower regularly, but you might be forgetting about the shower curtain and liner. You’ll want to clean them regularly as they can collect soap scum and mildew over time, leading to unwanted smells. If you have a fabric curtain, toss it in the washing machine. If you use a plastic one, they can easily be replaced.

Exhaust fans: Since it’s on the ceiling, exhaust fans are often out of sight and out of mind. However, they can collect dust, which not only doesn’t look great but can also impact the effectiveness of the fan. Clean them easily by using the hose attachment on your vacuum to remove unwanted debris. Then, remove the cover and wash with warm soapy water. Once it’s fully dry, put it back in place.

Behind the toilet: When you clean the inside, and around of your toilet, don’t forget about behind it as well. You will also want to scrub the floor and walls behind it too. This area of the bathroom needs proper attention, so don't ignore it during your deep clean.

Plumbing Tip: Leaks in toilets are the main culprit in causing high water bills! Therefore, you want to ensure you don’t ignore the signs as it could mean that you are, quite literally, flushing your hard-earned cash down the toilet.

Inside cabinets and drawers: While you might think to wipe down the outside of your drawers and cabinets, are you remembering to tackle the inside as well. Remove all items and wipe the area down with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly.

Bathroom walls: We know this isn’t an enjoyable task, but mildew and grime sticks to your bathroom walls due to accumulation of humidity. You can use an extendable brush to reach the top of the walls and use a mild cleaning solution to get your walls spick and span.

Under the sink: Cleaning under the sink is a great opportunity to not only ensure the space is tidy, but also to remove any items that you no longer use, have expired, or need replacing. You might want to consider storage containers to help keep items organized, ensuring under the sink looks as good as the rest of your bathroom.

Plumbing Tip: If you notice any water or moisture under the sink, you will want to ensure your pipes aren’t leaking. If there is an issue, be sure to address it immediately to avoid further damage or costly repairs!

Springtime often inspires homeowners to use their elbow grease and give their home a thorough clean. So, when you do, make sure you remember these often-forgotten spaces in your bathroom, leaving it a welcoming space for everyone.
