6 Steps to Follow Before the Pros Arrive

We hope that you don’t find yourself in this situation, but if you find yourself in a plumbing emergency, we want to help make the situation as stress free as possible. By acting quickly and effectively before the professionals arrive, you can minimize the damage and help lead us in the right direction.

Today, let’s chat about some things you should do during a plumbing emergency:

  1. Turn off the water

We have spoken before about the importance of knowing where your main water shut off valve is, and we will say it again. Knowing where to locate and shut off the main water supply to your home is a crucial step in helping mitigate the destruction that water can cause.

In terms of your water shut-off, you can locate that main valve by following the main water line as it enters your home.

  2. Call your plumber

Do you have our number saved in your phone? If not, take a moment to do so! The last thing you want to be searching for during a plumbing emergency is a phone number. Calling a trusted professional is your best defense against further damage to your home.

  3. Where is the issue?

Once you have successfully turned off the water, you want to try to identify the source of the problem. Knowing where the issue is coming from will help you to inform our team when we arrive. In some cases, you may not know where the water is coming from but don’t stress! The Action crew will find the source and resolve the issue.

  4. Turn off fixtures

If you have located the issue and found that it is being caused by a specific sink or toilet, for example, turn off the water supply to that fixture. Find the shut off valve, typically located beneath or behind, to stop further water from leaking out.

Additionally, you can open your faucets and drains to allow water to drain out. This is extremely helpful if there is a burst pipe or leak in your plumbing.

  5. Soak up the water

Use towels to soak up excess water and some kind of container to collect as much dripping water as possible. Placing something under the leak will stop the water from causing further damage to other areas in your home.

  6. Make room

If there is clutter or items blocking access to the issue, try your best to clear the area for the plumber so that they have easy access. In doing so, they can start repairing the issue immediately, rather than spending valuable time moving things out of their way.
